My attraction towards exact sciences began at a young age. During my studies in junior-high and high school, I was enthusiastic about these subjects, mainly Math and Physics. As a young teenage I didn't have dreams about Hi-tech career specifically, only a general fantasy of being a scientist. Thankfully, I got accepted to "Talpiyot" project, then I was assigned to the technological unit of the IDF Intelligence branch.

This unit and similar ones are maybe the best entrepreneurship schools in the world. In this unit I learned to be an engineer, to solve problems, to lead complex projects and make them happen. In addition, I worked shoulder to shoulder with talented people on super-complicated problems in uncertain conditions, and learned how to learn new things. It also means taking insane responsibility in a young age for national scale projects. This wasn't simple at all, and forced me to get outside my comfort zone at all times, breaking limits and drawing new boundaries. I found countless opportunities in these projects to learn new areas, to get better, to diversify, to develop professional skills and to work with the best. Back in my military service, which lasted over a decade, I felt "Gender Isolation" more than once. This is a significant issue in my professional and personal life, that I feel obliged to relate to, as I'm sure it occupies the thoughts of every woman or girl who is attracted to Hi-tech.

After completing my military service, I graduated with an MBA degree in order to combine my love for technology with its business potential, another area which has been fascinating me. After filling the role of Product Manager in Via, I was invited in 2016 by my friends from the technological unit, Orr, Avi and Rami (RIP) to found Hailo, which specializes in the development of AI chips for edge devices. I saw it as a unique opportunity which I could not turn down, the ability to impact the AI infrastructure field, one of the world's future technologies, to start something from scratch with an excellent team of exceptional people. Hailo develops artificial intelligence processors for edge devices, that will enrich our lives in many areas, such as autonomous vehicles, smart homes and smart cities. I was excited to understand the places where technology can make a unique impact and how technological brilliance can be transformed into business success. Hailo is already celebrating 4 years and employs around 130 employees in Israel and worldwide and I'm proud to lead its business side.

As mentioned, I've been spending most of my adult life in an environment in which men are the vast majority. People are used to see men in technological and managerial roles, and sometimes women are seen as outsiders at first glance. More than once I've attended meetings with representatives from other companies, who assumed that I have some administrative role or were surprised to find out that I'm a woman. Many times I was the only woman in the room, therefore I'm always glad to see the circle of women in these teams is constantly growing. All of them are talented, dedicated and professional. The presence of women contributes to the variety of ideas, to the enrichment of discussions and to improving the atmosphere. Women have a unique contribution in their holistic approach, in their ability to create an environment of cooperation and open communication, apart from their highly professional skills, as I always noticed.

The key to widening the involvement and the participation of women in tech is social internalization of the success factors and implementing them among girls at early age. There are many factors that are ought to be implemented, from which I chose to highlight some that I personally experienced.

The technology units of the IDF are an amazing school for entrepreneurship and innovation, that provide tools and priceless experience as well as important networking in the civil Hi-tech and entrepreneurship world in particular. Founding a company with friends who served together in the army is pretty common and natural practice, and I'd like that my positive experience on this would be the share of other young girls. I think it's a national goal to increase the rate of women in these units by making the courses more accessible and adjusted.

Another prominent topic is strengthening of pertinence and identification. Many times, women tend to turn away from the spotlights, but in my opinion it's important to give them the stage to tell their stories in order to create a feeling of belonging. For instance, make sure that you have the same number of female and male speakers at professional events, or initiating an event where women in the industry share their professional career stories. Lately I've been exposed to another initiative for young women - a Podcast named INSPIRA, which tells the story of women leaders in different areas. Such moves help women to feel part of this area, to identify and to imagine themselves following this path. It is important to make them accessible to younger girls as well and encourage them to join the technology domains.

Young girls and adolescents will find that the tech world is an amazing and diverse one, full of opportunities and fascinating topics. Hi-tech is a growth driver across the world, and being part of it is interesting and exciting, especially in Israel, which leads in innovation.
I assume that in many cases young women are not identifying themselves with the engineer character, maybe even deterred by it. When I started, I also did not have a clear vision or goal for how my professional world will look like and I did not strongly identify with the engineer character. Despite the abundance of information today, it is not easy for a young girl or boy to imagine how a workday will look like in a specific profession, which makes it easy for doubts to emerge, resulting in people gravitating towards occupations in which there are more people like them. In the real world, every professional field is an entire universe and can lead to a variety of roles. Hi-tech as well has an enormous range of development and other roles, where one can apply different methodologies and thought patterns, roles that emphasize different traits in us (research based, personal relationships based, etc.). I'm advising every young girl: If there are topics that you're curious about, a field that you excel in, go for it and find your path among the many possibilities the field offers.

Hi-tech belongs to us women - no less than it belongs to men. Women need to continue showing - by integrating into this world - that the diversity can only benefit Hi-tech and progress in general. I hope that many women will build their professional path in this exciting industry and, like me, will feel how satisfying it is to prove yourself and enrich your world.
